I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear.Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
In the wake of what has been a troubled and tumultuous year here in the United States and across the globe, it seems especially important at this time of year for each of us to take a moment to consciously choose to view the world and ourselves with compassion and love. We humans are not terribly evolved in the big scheme of things; the adrenalin-fueled fight or flight mechanism that has allowed us to survive as a species (thus far) is still very much hard-wired into who we are. Fear, anger, rage and hatred are a big part of our nature, while love and kindness, sadly, are not. They are attributes we need to cultivate and nurture if we want them to take hold.
So, as I end this year and look forward to the new, I am reminding myself to try to let go of anger and judgement of others and myself, and to work in as many ways as I can to find common ground with the people I know, work with and love. I am reminding myself that anger hurts; hatred kills and love, and only love heals.
Trite, perhaps, but true.
Happy Holidays to All!
