Chronic pain is a major public health problem in the United States and across the globe. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control estimates that 1 in 4 adults suffer from pain on a regular basis, and statistics show that as many as 20 percent of Americans lose productive time at work due to pain. The cost of pain in dollars and cents is astronomical: the cost in human suffering is immeasurable.
Over the past year, we at Journal to Wellness have received dozens of requests for journaling exercises that address the problem of chronic pain from our members and visitors, and we want you to know that we heard you loud and clear! That’s why we created The Pain Site, a journaling site devoted exclusively to helping you deal more effectively with the physical, emotional, financial and relationship issues of living with chronic, unremitting pain.
Let me be 100 percent truthful–The Pain Site will not give you a magic wand, or a formula for coping with the suffering you endure. Progress in the treatment chronic pain has been slowed almost to a halt by state and federal legislators who have improperly penalized chronic pain patients, doctors and advocates for the societal problem of drug abuse. Nevertheless, we have much to offer you in the way of information, journaling help and coping skills. What’s more, our News and Information section will contain up-to-date, reliable information about pain research and new treatments that may help you or someone you love.
The Pain Site is an ambitious project, but we are almost ready to launch! Stay tuned for an announcement by October 1st (fingers crossed!)
